From its humble beginnings in 1993 at Wisma Central - Ampang, to the destination restaurant it is today (located in the heart of the golden triangle and spanning across the country with a sister outlet in Damansara), Passage Thru' India, just as the name suggests, is a journey through the diverse realm of the culinary and cultural capital of the world that is India. The founder & owner of PTI is an avid traveller and the visionary responsible for the concept and expansion of the largest thematic Indian restaurant outside of India. After having worked for over 20 years with a premier fashion group, he took on early retirement as the director of marketing & merchandising in 1997 to focus on his true passion - the promotion of Indian culinary arts and culture in his homeland of Malaysia. It was during this time when he travelled the world in search of material and fabric. Often his trips would land him in the heart of India where he journeyed via rail and roads and experienced Indian taste and culture first hand. From the local "dhabas" in Punjab, to the village folks inviting him into their homes in Andhra Pradesh, his inspiration was the hustle bustle of culinary India that is reflective in the interior design and expansive menu of Passage Thru' India. The idea behind the concept and styling of PTI is also testimony to his travels which has resulted in the rustic interior design of the restaurant being hand painted entirely by the owner himself. By reinventing and redesigning the restaurants features, be it the menu, entrance, banquet hall or even the kitchen PTIs customers are always looking forward to its dynamic interiors along with its award winning vast menu of a 127 items spanning the Indian sub-continent.
